Additional and more flexible Meta Data

Postby yorke on Sun Jun 22, 2008 6:22 am

Some new feature requests re Meta Data:-
1) Include meta data fields to retain local operating system file data (especially Date Modified, Date Created, File Type) The dates etc stored in S3 bucket currently reflect download dates, not original file modify/create dates in Windows file system. While this can be achieved at the moment using Upload with Header option it means each piece of data for each file has to be done maunally and individually. A User Configuration setting in Bucket Explorer to automatically add user selected keys and their values to the meta data would be better. (This could apply to existing Windows file data values and user defined keys as well)

2) Some of the Meta data which is currently only visible by looking at the Properties on individual objects, would be better if it could be displayed "permanently" in a column in the right panel of Bucket Explorer. The columns visible (or not required) could be user definable and not currently fixed at Object,Size,Last Modified,Owner, All Users, Auth Users.

3) A possible bug, not a request. There may be a file sharing issue with Bucket Explorer??. When a file is uploaded from Windows XP to S3 and then immediately downloaded back from S3 to Windows, you get the Overwrite warning message (which is OK) but the download always fails. It appears the file in Windows is still in use and cannot be accessed, overwritten, deleted or used in any way until Bucket Explorer is quit.

Thanks for the feedback yorke, we have taken a note of 1 & 2 for the next release.

Which version of Bucket Explorer are you using? In the 2008.06 release, we first copy the file to a temp location. This should avoid the locking issue you have mentioned. Can you give it a try and let us know if you still see locking of files?

Thanks
