Incremental Backup

Postby Francoa on Fri Sep 28, 2007 12:32 pm

I started using BucketExplorer today (28th of September 2007): nice, works fine on Linux (Ubuntu distribution).

What about differential backup to avoid uploading large amount of data for nothing? A sort of synchronization process would be great.

Best Regards,

François:

Thanks for the feedback. We do incremental uploads already, i.e. if you select the entire folder, and click upload, Bucket Explorer will only upload those files which are changed. Identical files are never uploaded again.

At the end of the upload process, you should see the summary in the status bar, which will list the number of identical files not uploaded again.

What's missing is:
1. Block level incremental upload like rsync -> we would like to do this some day, but currently we don't have enough expertise and knowledge to implement this. We will have to spend some time researching a solution and this is not on a roadmap until October 30th.

2. A nice looking diff report which shows you the diffs before starting the uploads. We have planned to add this since past 2 versions, but it falls into "good to have UI feature" and we end up working on the "good to have new features" first. We still plan to add it by Nov.
