We are pleased to announce a new release of Bucket Explorer.

This is NOT a beta version of bucket explorer, and is a regular patch release to 2010.06.04.02, but we have opted to release it in this forum thread and not on the main download page, as another new version is expected soon with some new features that we are working on.

So, if you do need support for the CloudFront Custom Origin, download the new version from the following links. If you don't need the new features, stay with the version that's available on the download page. This version with some more updates will be available on our download page in a few weeks.

I want to create distribution for non S3 origin. How can use this feature in Bucket Explorer?

Hi,

Yes, now Bucket Explorer has this feature that enables you to create distribution on non S3

Origin like domain.

You just run the Bucket Explorer as usual,and follow the steps below-

1.Click Distribution tool button from Bucket toolbar.
2.You will get the listing of distribution.
3.Click on New to create distribution.
4.You will have two tab "General" and "Custom"
5. From General tab you have to select general settings like CName, Comment, Distribution

Type (Public) like that.
6.And From Custom tab, you can set custom origin details for creating custom origin

distribution. (if custom origin details in provided then distribution will be created for Curtom

origin else basic distribution.)
7.Provide DNS Name, it must be a domain name.
8.Enter the numbers for Http & Https port. Default values for Http & Https port are 80 &

443 respectively.
9.Select [1] Origin Protocol Policy as Http Only or Match Viewer.
10.Go to the general tab and click on Create button.
11.Refresh listing, you will find recentely created distribution in listing of

distribution. Its status is InProgress. After some time it get deployed.

When I try to create a custom origin, it says:

"The Bucket you selected is not valid for Distribution"

How does Bucket Explorer (and Cloudfront) know how to access the files from
my custom origin?

Thanks for reporting issue. This was the issue and has been fixed. For the temporary solution, Please take care of these two points before creating Custom Origin Distribution,
1> First select any DNS compatible s3 bucket.
2> And then apply setting to creating Custom Origin Distribution.

Now it fails with a different error:

Hi slimandslam,

You selected Streaming Distribution according to the image you provided.
Select only public type for distribution else will not work with custom origin.
Distribution with custom origin allow only public distribution.

Can i create cloud front private distribution for non s3 origin ?

No, Cloud front not allow to create private distribution for custom origin name. It must be publicly accessible.
