Feedback and feature requests

Postby yistl » Tue Nov 06, 2007 2:26 am

I just started using Bucket Explorer after using S3 Firefox for a while, and the difference is impressive. 30 MB files used to take 40 minutes to upload, and fail half the time; now they take 10 minutes with no problems. Thank you for an excellent program.

A few suggestions:
1. Some way to set the default ACL. I use S3 as an audio file server; almost all my files should be publicly accessible. It would be nice to have some way for that to be the default.

2. A command line or COM interface to allow automation with Visual Basic.

3. Integration with FTP. I'd like an easy way to move files from my website server (accessed with FTP) onto S3.

Addition feature request: set content-type

Postby yistl » Tue Nov 06, 2007 6:52 am

Playing with this some more, I realize that it would be very helpful if there was some way to set the content-type to something other than application/octet-stream; if I could set an audio file to the right content-type it would stream rather than download.

Hello yistl,

These are some excellenet suggestions. We will include them in Bucket Explorer.

You can already add custom headers. If you right click on a file, which needs to be uploaded, you will see an option for "Upload with Custom Headers".

Thanks

Custom Headers

Postby yistl » Tue Nov 06, 2007 9:35 am

Thanks for the info. Does this mean that I can't change the headers once it's been uploaded?

no.. S3 APIs do not allow changing the header once the file is uploaded. We will do some more research on this to make sure that my information here is correct.
